National security challenges under the spotlight at pioneering tech events

HMGCC recently hosted two showcase events, bringing the tech triumphs of industry closer to national security’s toughest challenges.

The first event saw HMGCC opening its door to nearly 20 prime companies, as an opportunity to explore their capabilities and scrutinise the tech problems facing national security.

This special day was the first time HMGCC’s Hanslope Park base had hosted industry visitors at this scale.

The aim was to enable companies to talk more about how their technologies could be applied, and a chance for them to examine and workshop some challenges.

Organisations at the event were also given a month to prepare proposals responding to a set of three challenges which could eventually become real tech solutions for use in keeping the country safe.

This day was quickly followed by a separate, showcase day in central Milton Keynes, which celebrated the contributions of academic and commercial organisations in previous HMGCC Co-Creation challenges.

HMGCC Co-Creation is an initiative which works to share tech problems publicly, by publishing them on social media and websites via a network of collaborators.

The team then works with companies or academic researchers over a period of 12 weeks to help develop solutions that could be helpful to national security work.

People from across the national security community attended to hear presentations from some organisations which had contributed solutions in response to a set of seven published challenges.

Our CEO George Williamson said: “We were delighted to host so many brilliant companies at two fascinating events hosted by us here at HMGCC.

“Both events brought into sharp focus just how much truly inspiring innovation is out there, matched with a real enthusiasm from researchers and technologists to work with us on unique projects.

“The prospect of collaborating more closely with national security can be a complex one, but with these events, and our important Co-Creation work, we know we are carving out a clear front door for innovators hoping to get involved in our trailblazing work.”
