Our culture
HMGCC’s culture is all about innovating together in a mutually supportive environment, where there are structures in place to ensure staff have everything they need to achieve their best work.
A set of culture principles underpin our work, with five strands underlining what is important to our organisation. These are:
Innovate with purpose
We explore, learn, and adapt at pace to deliver timely mission impact
Play to our strengths
We bring our individual strengths, harnessing those of others, making great things happen
Cultivate kindness
We respect, care, and give feedback to create a high performing, inclusive team environment
Uphold excellent standards
We do what is right, sustainably and ethically every day
Team National Security Engineering
We pull together the right people and technology across national security, industry and academia

Always learning
We’re always learning, and you’ll be supported from day one as you further your own expertise. From your induction through to formal technical training, you’ll be able to enjoy opportunities to learn new skills, keep your knowledge up-to-date, and unlock your full potential.
Alongside formal technical training, we also provide support to individuals working towards professional registration – be that chartership, fellowship or something else. And you’ll also have opportunities for internal progression. We share our expertise across the whole range of engineering, technology, manufacturing and corporate sectors every day, offering support and opportunities for everyone – regardless of where they work. It means our people enjoy a far broader and, in many respects, much deeper organisational exposure than most other employers can offer.

Part of the community
We play an active role in our local community - doing what we can, where we can, on a daily basis.
- MK food bank - helping those in crisis in Milton Keynes HMGCC hold quarterly collections on site for non-perishable food products and toiletries.
- Volunteer days - HMGCC is proud to offer each permanent member of staff, 3 days a year, paid leave to use towards volunteering for a registered UK charity.
- HMGCC charity of the year - Each year staff at HMGCC are encouraged to submit nominations for a charity organisation to vote on and become our charity of the year. We hold a range of charity events on site to make sure we raise as much money as we can in the year.

Inclusion and diversity
HMGCC is committed to ensuring inclusiveness and equality of opportunity for all employees, through fair employment policies and practices that value diversity. We aim to recognise the value of individuals' differences and embrace them so that everyone can be themselves at work.
“Working in national security engineering means taking on the most demanding challenges and the most determined adversaries. Throughout our history, ingenuity and free thinking have helped us stay ahead, but we know we can only keep that creative edge if we continue to reach out and embrace the extraordinary diversity of talent our country has to offer.
“At HMGCC, we thrive on the spark you get when different minds meet. That’s why we’re on a mission to bring together the most diverse and representative team, drawn from all parts of the UK and all walks of life. People from different backgrounds, with different cultural heritage. People with different perspectives and lived experiences. People from the mainstream and from the fringes.
“Our unique work demands a startling range of different skills from across engineering, design and innovation. And our community and culture welcomes anyone with the expertise, energy and passion to play their part."
