Welcome from the CEO
Hi, welcome to HMGCC.
Firstly, I'd like to say thank you for applying to work at HMGCC, and congratulations on making it this far in the process.
Our recruitment process can take some time, for good reasons, but we really do appreciate your patience.
As you know, our organisation houses professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds and, together, we achieve some amazing things. Our ever-evolving digital age pushes us to create high-tech products with incredible complexity. Joining us means you'll have access to our ground-breaking technology and exciting projects.
Having you on our team will no doubt result in even more innovative ideas and better protection for the country. So, we're very excited that you're one step closer to joining us.
George, HMGCC CEO

Security clearance
When you join HMGCC you will be given a security clearance relevant to your role, some of our positions mean you will have access to a wide range of sensitive information.
It is paramount for the safety of our organisation, our people and our country, that this information does not get into the wrong hands. You'll be expected to maintain your level of clearance throughout your career with us.
The purpose of security clearance is to ensure that a person’s character and personal circumstances are such that they can be trusted to work in a position which may involve access to sensitive assets or material.
All employees of HMGCC, individuals seconded to HMGCC and most contractors working for us must hold DV clearance.
Developed Vetting (DV) is the most comprehensive form of vetting; you will need this for roles that involve long-term, frequent or uncontrolled access to sensitive material.

Vetting process
The length of the vetting process depends on your individual circumstances.
You will have already completed a security clearance questionnaire; provided identity documents and employment/ education references. You’ll need to allow time for the vetting officer to interview you, your referees and allow us to check against UK criminal and security records here and overseas and go through a credit reference check.
We generally anticipate that you’ll have completed the process within three to four months. And we can guarantee that we always process everyone’s applications as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, if you fail vetting, we’re unable to tell you why. We're also not told the details.

We know how daunting it can be to start a new job, so we've got lots of support in place.

Vetting interview
The interview will usually take place in either Milton Keynes or London. The length of the interview varies but it is very in-depth; we advise you to set aside a whole day. The questions will cover everything from your family, friends and hobbies, to your financial situation.
It's natural to worry about the interview. The best approach is to be entirely honest so we can make an accurate assessment of your suitability to hold DV clearance.

Keeping in touch
After your open day. you'll be contacted by your vetting officer within six weeks. They'll give you a call to introduce themselves and they'll spend around 10 - 15 minutes talking through what you can expect over the coming weeks. It gives you a chance to ask any initial questions and feel reassured about the process.
Your vetting officer will also give you their contact details, so you can get in touch if you have any further questions.

The Park
There's a lot on offer at our campus near Milton Keynes. When it comes to our facilities, you'll find a free gym, multipurpose sports courts, a cash point and a set of showers for cyclists or if you go to the gym. And when it comes to food and drink, there's two on-site canteens - plus fridges, microwaves and tea points.
You'll also have access to a huge variety of clubs and societies.

Relocating
The towns nearest to our campus are Milton Keynes and Northampton. Milton Keynes is about a 20-minute drive away, and Northampton is 30 minutes away. Both places have great rail links to London, Birmingham and Manchester. And from the Snowdome and Theatre District in Milton Keynes, to Wellingborough Road in Northampton, both have a lot to offer. With open spaces and outstanding schools, they're great places to bring up a family.
We offer a range of training courses in house and have guests come and speak about various topics (it's not always technical). We also attend external training and conferences.
Benefits

Your first week
We know how daunting it can be to start a new job, so we’ve got lots of support in place.
Everyone’s really friendly, so never be afraid to ask a ‘silly’ question or ask for directions! Remember that everyone was new to HMGCC at some point, so we’ve all been there. You’ll find that managers will just come and say hello and introduce themselves. And it’s not obvious what grade people are, so there’s no sense of hierarchy.
When you join, you’ll attend a two-and-a-half-day induction where you’ll learn about all the different areas and what they do. You’ll also be given a stationery pack and reusable cup when you join, just to help you feel at home.
In terms of dress code, people wear everything from business attire to jeans - depending on the level of customer interaction they have. Your line manager will be able to guide you when you meet them for lunch during your induction.

Support
We've got lots of schemes in place to make sure you're fully supported. But first of all, we'll get to know you through regular chats with your line manager and find out what we can do to help. Depending on what's best, we can arrange for you to have an assigned mentor who can answer any questions and/or a buddy if you just need a chat.
We also have a well-being adviser, counsellor and financial adviser available if you need some extra support along with a dedicated well-being room on site, so you'll have some space to switch off when you need to.
