Responses flood in following launch of HMGCC’s Top 10 Technologies campaign
A call for ideas from industry and academia has attracted a significant response, with 70 submissions received so far in response to the Top 10 Technologies campaign.
The campaign, which outlines 10 priority technologies deemed crucial to national security, aims to tap into the collective expertise of the technology community.
Two months on from the launch of our campaign, the response has been positive, with a diverse range of organisations and individuals contributing their insights and ideas on technologies that could have a great impact.
For an organisation which had quiet about its work for 85 years, launching this campaign marked a transformation in some working methods got HMGCC.
HMGCC had to adapt and change processes, introducing a technical triage team to make sure that such a diverse set of submissions were dealt with by the right people in the right way.
It marked a change in thinking for an organisation which, for more than eight decades had created, built and tested most of its technology in-house.
By working collaboratively in a new way the team has been evolving response times to make them as fast as possible and ensuring that companies receive prompt replies and follow-ups.
The Top 10 Technologies campaign is still open for submissions and we encourage innovators from companies large and small, or from academic research departments to consider how their concepts or ideas could potentially help the national security mission.
As a reminder, the 10 technologies we are focusing on in this campaign are:
• Edge AI
• Quantum sensing
• Advanced manufacturing
• Advanced power sources
• Radio frequency signals and antennas
• Communication systems
• Detection of security vulnerabilities
• Identity protection
• Novel electronics
• Space
Other ideas not in the above list are welcome, using the same online form on our website.
Each submitted idea sent in from industry or academia is examined by our team of experts who will explore if it has potential to be taken forward for use with national security.
Submissions received to date have already provided valuable insights into the latest technological advancements and trends, as well as highlighting areas where further innovation is needed.
A small portion of the submissions have already been successful, with HMGCC exploring further engagement with the innovators in question.
Our CEO George Williamson said: “We know that Top 10 Technologies is a broad campaign – it is deliberately so.
“This was a considered step taken to create an avenue for innovators to tell us about the ideas they think could have real use for us.
“We’ve been delighted by the response to Top 10 Technologies in its first month. We designed it up front to be a broad campaign, giving innovators the chance to tell us about ideas they thought could be useful to us. They’ve responded magnificently. It’s been an experiment for us – and we’ve learned much from the process so far. We hope we’ve been responsive in getting back quickly with feedback on ideas that won’t work for us, and those that we’d like to work further on.”
